Researchers represent CURA at 2018 AAG Conference
CURA was well-represented at the 2018 American Association of Geographers annual meeting, which took place in New Orleans in April.
Bus Delays
Post-doctoral researcher Yongha Park presented his work modeling delays in the Central Ohio transit network. The paper, titled Empirical assessment of public transit performance using General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) static and real-time feeds: a case study of bus operation delays in Columbus, Ohio, is the culmination of a collaborative effort with the Central Ohio Transit Authority(COTA), who operates the transit network and publishes the GTFS feed that was used in the study. Dr. Park has leveraged his research to create a web application that allows the public to visualize bus locations and delays in near-realtime. The application will be part of the Columbus Urban & Regional Information Observatory (aka CURIO), which is slated for public release in Summer 2018.

Housing polarization and inequality
Graduate research associate Jinhyung Lee presented a paper titled Measuring spatial polarization and inequality in cities using housing transaction big data in which he and his co-authors assessed the location premium of housing in Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati between 2000 and 2015 and found that both the spatial polarization and inequality of location premiums in these cities have increased during this period. This information is presented in part as a series of location premium surfaces, an example of which is shown below.

Mobility assessment
Graduate research associate Young Jaegal gave a presentation entitled Similarity Measure for Network Time Prisms based on Graph-theoretic Measures: An Experimental Analysis in which he discussed a method of comparing potential mobility of individuals in transport networks. The method assesses the similarity of network time prisms based on the temporal signature of the prisms measured by indices in graph theory.
