In the News: Roads Designed for Speed Pose Danger for Both Pedestrians and Drivers

Last week, CURA director, Harvey Miller was featured in an article published by Columbus Monthly. In this article, issues with our current roadway design were discussed. This article quoted a recent article that highlighted a study published last year in the journal Transportation Research Record on the changes in vehicular speeds and fatalities during COVID-19. This study was co-authored by Jonathan Stiles,  Armita KarJinhyung Lee, and Harvey Miller

"Most evidence shows that repurposing street space actually makes it better for everybody," Miller says. "We have to recognize that people aren’t going to be perfect drivers. They’re going to make mistakes. … We need to redesign our roads to [help drivers to] be more mindful and to slow down."
