What software do I need to use AGOL?
To consume map services, you will often only need a web-browser. To create maps, upload data, and create analysis services you will generally need to have access to ESRI products such as ArcMap, ArcCatalog, or ArcGIS Pro. These are installed in many places on the OSU campus so check to see if it is already installed in computer labs that you use. If you want to request the software, follow the general directions.
How do I use AGOL?
This is probably beyond the scope of this document but the following websites will give you more information.
http://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/ - a really good online help site
http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisonline - general information
http://ohiostate.maps.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?useExisting=1 – how to make a map online (note: you need to sign up for AGOL before using this)
Any advice on using AGOL?
Yes, just try it. Experiment and investigate. Don’t be afraid of breaking it. You probably won’t break it so don’t hesitate to experiment.
